19.80 Crores Allotted by TN Government to Set up 412 Coaching Centers for NEET

The Tamil Nadu government has allotted INR 19.80 crores for the establishment of 412 coaching centers for training 78,000 NEET aspirants. Students need not pay any fees to avail coaching at these coaching centers.

The idea behind establishment of these coaching centers is to groom the talented candidates from the state who could not afford the fee of the expensive private coaching centers. Earlier, K.A. Sengottiyan, the Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, had approached the Union Government to exempt all Tamil Nadu students from appearing in NEET for getting admissions to the MBBS and BDS courses at various medical institutions.

The decision in this regard is still under discussion. So meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government will make all possible arrangements to train at least 2000 eligible students from the state for the NEET exam. The aspirants eligible for NEET would need to go through a screening process to qualify the selection criteria. Once selected, they will be provided with special best-in-class coaching for the NEET exam.

These coaching centers will surely materialize the dreams of many students from poor economical background to become doctors. The fee of the most of the private coaching institutions for medical entrance examinations is very high, and is in lakhs. Not every family is capable of paying such a big amount in the name of coaching. This suppresses the aspirations of many meritorious candidates who actually have the potential of proving their merit if provided with the opportunity.

The proposed coaching centers will train the students based on NEET Syllabus with the CBSE curriculum. This will ensure that the aspirants are taught with the required education framework.

Prior to this, Tamil Nadu had only two institutions, which were reserving some seats to provide free coaching to the aspirants for the centralized competitive exams. The government has now tied-up with these two institutions, and also established 412 new coaching centers to offer NEET coaching to the students.

The test is supposed to be conducted through video conferencing. The coaching classes of the selected candidates will be arranged on the weekends, so that the studies of students appearing in the upcoming 12th class board exams are not affected.

Each of these coaching centers is administered at the Panchayat Union level and contains eight well experienced Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs). The teachers from the central government, state government or private schools may also join these coaching institutions for training the students for the NEET exam.
