World Environment Day observed at Doordarshan Bhavan premises

Reiterating the commitment to ensure a cleaner planet, World Environment Day was observed at Doordarshan Bhavan premises in New Delhi.

To mark the occasion, saplings were planted by Director General of Doordarshan Supriya Sahu and Director General of DD News Mayank Kumar Agarwal and other Doordarshan staff.

A selfie was also taken under the ‘#selfiewithsapling’ campaign. The campaign provides an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment.

On the occasion, DG Doordarshan Supriya Sahu said that for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues, special programmes have been organised in all DD Kendras across the country.

Reaffirming commitment to a cleaner and sustainable planet, DG DD News Mayank Kumar Agarwal said that to make people aware of importance of nature, a number of programmes related to environment being telecast on DD.

The World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5 and it encourages people worldwide to contribute in protecting the environment.

The campaign each year is organized around a theme that draws attention to a particularly pressing environmental concern.

This year, the Government of India has launched the campaign, SelfiewithSapling, to spread awareness about creating a clean environment.
