Udaipur : A dazed woman sat outside the general hospital here for hours holding and wailing over the dead body of her little daughter who died of throat infection in the wee hours of Thursday. Sugna Gameti, the helpless mother had been attending her three months old baby single handedly as her husband Madan had deserted them after admitting the child at the children’s hospital of the RNT Medical college here on Monday. On Wednesday night, the child’s condition deteriorated and she was kept in the intensive care unit, however, the child died in the early morning and the medical staff on duty handed her body to the mother.
The staff didnt even remove the tube that was attached to the baby’s nostrils. The helpless woman did not know what to do as she didnt have any contact number other than of her husband who had switched off the mobile. She didnt knew anyone in the city. Sugna sat in one of the benches at the hospital’s corridor and waited for dawn. In the morning she roamed around the hospital carrying the body in her arms but no one felt pity on her condition until some one was kind enough to inform an NGO whose volunteers arrived and arranged for the cremation. Meanwhile, Superintendent of the MB hospital Dr Lakhan Poswal said the child was admitted in unit C of the hospital.
” I was informed of the incident by one of the resident doctor and we immediately made necessary arrangements to help her. Her grievance was not against the hospital but her husband who left them helpless. If there had been any medical negligence that caused the death, proper action would be taken” Poswal told Udaipur Kiran. The woman told the volunteers that she hailed from Mamer village in Kotra block and three years ago she had met her husband Madan who operates earth moving equipment for a private firm. They married as per the tribal customs and Sugna came to live with him in Udaipur, Madan is told to have 5 wives and many kids with each of them.
