UP govt recommends CBI probe in Unnao rape survivor’s accident

The state government has sent a formal request to the Centre for the CBI probe.

Earlier, on Monday the UP Police filed a murder case against UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and nine others after the rape survivor’s family filed a complaint, alleging “conspiracy” behind the accident.

Sengar, a four-time MLA, is accused of raping the woman, and he was arrested last year in April.

On Sunday, the car in which rape survivor, her family and lawyer were traveling, was hit by an overspeeding truck in Rae Bareli, killing two members and leaving her and the advocate critically injured.

Meanwhile, a team of National Commission for Women will visit the survivor and her family members in Unnao on Tuesday.

The Commission has asked the state police to ensure a free, fair and speedy probe in the case.

The issue of Unnao rape survivor’s accident also echoed in Lok Sabha where opposition members raised the issue and demanded Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement. Leader of Congress in the lower house, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury raised the issue and termed it as a shameful one.

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal also spoke on the issue and said that the overspeeding truck that hit the car of the women and her family were traveling in, belonged to a Samajwadi Party leader.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that state government has already recommended a CBI probe and there should be no politics on the issue.
