Eknath Shinde, Subhash Desai (both Shiv Sena), Jayant Patil, Chhagan Bhujbal (both NCP), Balasaheb Thorat and Nitin Raut (both Congress) were sworn in as ministers.
Uddhav Thackeray becomes the third leader from Shiv Sena to become the CM of Maharashtra after Manohar Joshi and Narayan Rane.
Invitation to the oath taking ceremony was extended to a number of political parties and chief ministers of the states including Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
However Sonia gandhi gave it a miss. Her son Rahul gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh were also missing from the ceremony.
The representation of Congress CMs was also thin with only Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath turning up.
DMK leader Stalin was also witness to the oath taking.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also did not make it to the ceremony.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar, his daughter Supriya Sule, Uddhav Thackeray’s family participated in the program.
Uddhav’s cousin brother an MNS chief Raj Thackeray was also present.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar came for the ceremony. There were speculations of him taking oath but that did not happen.
The NCP did not disclose its Deputy Chief Ministerial candidate either.
Earlier in the day, the Maha Vikas Aghadi presented the common minimum program of their alliance. It listed the priorities of the alliance and mentioned setting up of two coordination committees.
After the elections in the state, BJP-Shiv Sena alliance got the majority mandate.
However, Shiv Sena remained adamant on the CM’s position for half the tenure of two-and-half years.
Shiv Sena then joined hands with NCP and Congress to form the govt.
Although, three parties with opposing ideologies have formed the Govt in Maharashtra, the real challenge ensuring stability of govt begins now for the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
PM MODI CONGRATULATES UDDHAV THACKERAY
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Uddhav Thackeray on taking oath as Maharashtra chief minister, saying he is confident that the Shiv Sena chief will work diligently for the bright future of the state.
“Congratulations to Uddhav Thackeray Ji on taking oath as the CM of Maharashtra. I am confident he will work diligently for the bright future of Maharashtra,” PM Modi tweeted.
