UAE to honour PM Modi with its highest civilian honour ‘Order of Zayed’

The honour is the highest honor of the UAE and awarded only to Kings and Head of States with rare exceptions. The award will be presented in a special ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. The anouncement to award Prime Minister Modi with “Order of Zayed”  was made by the UAE government in April this year.

The award has been conferred to PM Modi in recognition of the pivotal role played by him in enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries to the level of comprehensive strategic relations. After the announcement, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces had  said that “By granting our dear friend the Indian Prime Minister the Zayed Medal, we express our appreciation for his role and efforts in developing friendly relations and extending bridges of cooperation between the UAE and the Republic of India in various fields”.

The ‘Order of Zayed‘looks like a large necklace with a sunflower-like medallion at the centre. The award aims to honour the recipients who have made an effort to strengthen relations between their home country and the UAE. In the recent past  ‘Order of Zayed‘ has been bestowed amongst others upon Vladimir Putin, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Beatrix, and Xi Jinping.
