U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he wants to overhaul the immigration system to favor young, educated, English-speaking applicants with job offers instead of people with family ties to Americans.
Trump’s plan is aimed at trying to unite Republicans ahead of the November 2020 presidential and congressional elections. In new policy, Trump proposed a shift to a “merit-based” system similar to one used in Canada – a plan that would result in 57 per cent of green cards to be based on employment and skills.
Trump said that we will replace the existing Green card categories with a new visa – the ‘Build America Visa’. He also mentioned that he is unveiling a plan to create a fair, modern and lawful system of immigration for the U.S. He said, if adopted, this plan will transform America’s immigration system into the pride of our Nation and the envy of the modern world.
