Three children killed after school wall collapse in Udaipur

Udaipur : Three children were killed when a compound wall of the government upper primary school collapsed on Saturday morning at Thobawada village under Kherwada police station limits of the district. The roads leading to the village were submerged in water that caused delay even for the police and rescue team to reach the spot. Some of the villagers who saw the wall falling on the kids, ran to rescue, however by the time they removed the debris, all of the three students had died. Gloom descended in the village as people watched in shock and horror while the bodies were shifted to the mortuary.

“The victims were identified as Ayush (6) son of Amrutlal Meena, Avinash (8) son of Nanalal Meena and Manisha (15) daughter of Babulal Meena. The kids studied in class one, four and eighth respectively. Their bodies have been handed over to their families after post mortem” Bhanwarlal, SHO Kherwara police station said.

” It had been raining incessantly for past two days in the area. Heavy rainfall coupled with water logging seems to be the reason for the mishap. We have registered a case of accidental deaths upon the complaint from the parents of the victims. A proper inquiry under provisions of the CrPC would be made to find out the actual cause” Udaipur SP KailashChandra Bishnoi told Udaipur Kiran.” The incident is very unfortunate and the administration would extend all required help to the aggrieved families. They would also be given a sum of 4 lakh rupees each as per the provision for deaths caused by natural calamities” Naresh Bunkar, ADM (administration) informed.

The incident happened in the morning when the children were going to school. Suddenly the compound wall collapsed and fell on the road. The three kids who happened to pass by at the moment, were caught beneath the stones. By the time the rescue team reached the spot, hundreds of villagers had gathered at the school campus. The locals and teachers told the police that the contractor had used poor quality of material in the construction that caused the collapse under heavy rains. Police had tough time pacifying the people. ” The contractor as well as the school management is responsible for the negligence and appropriate action should be initiated against them” SherSingh Chouhan, State president of Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Shikshak Sangh said.
