Thailand Open: Saina Nehwal begins her women’s singles campaign

Seventh-seeded Saina was forced to withdraw from both the Indonesia and Japan Open on medical grounds.In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth emerged victorious over his Chinese rival Ren Peng Bo, 21-13, 17-21, 21-19.

He will face Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab in the second round. In other encounters in the Men’s Singles category, Parupalli Kashyap defeated Zilberman M of Israel 18-21, 21-08, 21-14 while Pranoy H S defeated Wong W. K. V. of Hong Kong 21-16, 22-20.

However, Saurabh Varma lost to  K. Tsunemaya of Japan 21-23, 21-19, 5-21 while Shubankar Day got a walkover on Momota K  of Japan.

India’s mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa recorded a win over Olympic silver medallists Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying 21-16, 21-13 while pair of Pranoy Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy defeated K Gondo and A. Kurihara of Malaysia 21-16, 21-13.
