Udaipur : The state disaster relief force team with the help of local villagers rescued and transported some 350 students and staff who were stuck in a private school in Maupura village in Bainsroadgarh gram panchayat of Chittorgarh district.
The children had to spend two days and two nights in the school since Saturday as the village was disconnected with the main town after the connecting bridge at Chamli was inundated due to water overflowing from two dams in the region. Chittorgarh parliamentarian CP Joshi also reached the school in the morning to supervise the rescue work. In the presence of the ADM Mukesh Kalal, tehsildar and other offcials, the children were taken in boats and tractors to the main road where buses had been called to take them to Rawat Bhata. Meanwhile, the villagers complained to the MP that the district administration took a casual approach while dealing with the emergency.
The officials made formal visits but did not make any arrangements for the food and stay of the hundreds of children. The villagers also said food were sent from each home in the village and had not the people been sensitive, the kids would have starved for two days. The locals also said that none of the officials had stayed back in the school on Sunday night. The power supply too failed in the area due to incessant rains and the villagers arranged for the generator set so that children do not have to face inconvenience.
