His comments came as 33 persons were tested positive of COVID on Monday bringing up the number of active cases to 553. The country recorded its eighth COVID death on Monday while 194 people have been cured out of total 755 infections.
Most of the new cases tested positive are from Welisara navy camp where over 300 navy personnel have tested positive over past two weeks. President Rajapaksa said Srilanka adopted a few unique measures including establishment of quarantine centres managed by the armed forces and the deployment of the State Intelligence services to do contact tracing.
He said both these measures have helped Sri Lanka cope with the pandemic quite successfully enabling the health authorities to function at the optimum level.
