Solo Traveling Fears Debunked!

While traveling in packs may be how roving groups did things back in the day and traveling in pairs is popular for sure, there is still something to be said for the solo traveler. Traveling solo means that you control the tempo and you control the outcome. You can go where you want and you can leave when you want. Traveling alone is one of the best ways to see and do the things that you want to do and accomplish these tasks at your own pace. Here are five of the solo traveling fears which so many of us have, debunked!

This is one of those things that you hear about all of the time; ‘What about my safety?’ Well lucky for whenever you happen to be reading this, we are living in one of the safest times to be alive in the world. There are so many cameras and so much security, safety is not something that you should worry about in most places. If you are going to a place where safety is something to be concerned about, you may need to take some added precautions. Having a guide ferry you through the more dicey spots is one good way to do things. Also, your cellular device can be all the security that you need. The world is a dangerous place, generally, but in a large part of the world, for your traveling needs, safety is one of those things that you can count on.

Another one of those nagging complaints which people have is ‘what are my loved ones going to say?’. If those closest to you think that you don’t deserve a vacation or they don’t want you to go alone, that’s nice, but that’s not really their decision to make. If they want to come with you on your solo jaunt that’s another story altogether. But if they are just worried about you or are making you feel as though you are making a wrong decision, thank them for their concern and make sure they know how to get in touch with you when you are away.

Getting out into the world and traveling alone isn’t necessarily about being with others; it’s about seeing somewhere that you have always wanted to go that you could never get others to join you at! So the whole “I’ll be lonely” argument is moot from that standpoint. You should embrace this solitude, you should love the privacy, you should want to find out more about yourself and about these places in the world which fascinate you; that is the point to the solo traveling adventure!

If indeed, you are among the “shy” ones of us in this world, you need to get over it! The fact that you are going to be somewhere in the world that you have never been, doing things you have never done, seeing people you will likely never see again, should be totally empowering! You control your level of involvement, your level of intensity, and your level of engagement. Who knows, maybe you will meet lifelong friends on this new trip you maybe were never going to have made. The fact is that the shy argument just doesn’t hold any water when you are alone in a part of the world that you have never been to before; the world is your oyster!

Finally, there is the “fun” argument. “How am I going to have any fun when I’m all alone?”. If this phrase describes you, or if you need constant stimuli from familiar faces and familiar places, then maybe you should not consider traveling alone. Solo travel isn’t for everyone. But the simple fact that you have read this article this far indicates that the possibility of solo travel is something which excites you. Why should you turn your back on that? You will have all the fun in your own way, at your own pace, and in your own fashion when you are traveling alone. That is one of the awesome points about it. Better still if you are worried about excluding a friend, partner or loved one from the experience, you can always go back to the same place later on! The fact that you have been there alone will make you a better tour guide when you do have accompaniment!

There is so much to see and so much to do in this great big world of ours; why you would want to stifle that by not getting out as often as you could is a mystery to those who do. Solo travel may not be the prescribed method for many, but for the adventuresome among us, solo travel affords a world of possibilities for thrilling experiences, new adventures and cherished memories!
