SLPP challenges UNF to name its PM candidate during upcoming Presidential polls

Addressing a press conference in Colombo on Thursday, SLPP leader and former minister Sarath Amunugama said that UNF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa intends to continue the same government under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremsinghe, which has proved to be a failure.

He said that Premadasa has not clarified on letter written by deputy foreign minister Wasantha Senananyake in this regard.

The SLPP leader also added that the current cabinet under Wickremsinghe should resign in the event of the victory of their candidate Gotabaya Rajapksa.

He said victory of Gotabaya would clearly mean loss of mandate for Prime Minister. The term of current parliament ends in August next year and can only be dissolved in February, as per the constitution.

SLPP has already declared that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Prime minister if their side comes to power.

The Presidential election scheduled for 16th of next month is being closely contested between the two main candidates with total of 35 in fray.
