Udaipur : Residents of Varda village under Nai police station limit adjoining the city area protested outside the collectorate on Saturday over the death of a brother and sister who were killed when an electricity pole fell on them while they were going on a bike a day ago. The villagers alleged negligence on the officials of the electricity department and demanded legal as well as departmental action against the responsible employees for the accident.
According to sources, Mohan (17) and his sister Kiran (4) residents of Bhil basti were going to their home on Friday evening when an electricity pole which was being repaired , suddenly fell on the moving bike. The rider lost control and both of them sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to nearest hospital however both of them died.
Villagers claimed that many poles in their village are damaged and in hanging condition and they had given numerous complaints for repair and maintenance however the officials didn’t pay heed. On Friday one of the pole was being repaired but the staff didn’t obstruct the road nor did they warned the motorist of the repair work being done. Due to the negligence, the pole fell on the bikers which caused their deaths. Seeing the unrest, Udaipur rural legislator Phool Singh Meena and former MLA Sajjan Katara also arrived at the collective and assured action to be taken against the erring officials and also ensured that all the damaged poles would be repaired or replaced.
