Udaipur : Men in Khakis have hearts of gold! The entire staff of Chitri police station in Dungarpur district proved it by contributing money from their pockets and arranged the wedding ceremony of an orphan tribal girl Sushila Damor in Nainvasa village on Friday. None other than the SHO Ajay Singh Rao and his wife assumed the role of the bride parents and performed the kanyadaan rituals. The entire thana staff attended the wedding and blessed the couple.
Chatura and Pemli Damor, Sushila’s parents had eight daughters in all. Three of them had been married when Chatura passed away of some prolonged illness five years ago. Their mother did odd jobs to support the family, but unfortunately she too died two years back, leaving her five daughters to fend for their own. Their paternal uncle Bachulal took care of his nieces and sent two younger ones to school while the three grown up girls worked in field and did other menial jobs to support their uncle.
“Some villagers who had come to the police station happened to casually mention about the plight of these girls and said that Bachulal had found a groom for Sushila but he was unable to bear the wedding expenses, this moved our hearts and we decided to raise money for a noble cause. Every staff member contributed of his and her free will as per their capacity and we had enough to arrange a decent wedding and gift household items to the couple to start their new life” the SHO told Udaipur Kiran.
The cops brought wedding dress for the bride, essential utensils and household items while the SHO gifted a pair of silver anklet weighing around 10 tolas to the bride as per the Kanyadaan rituals. The arrangement for the wedding feast was also taken care by the cops. ” We sisters were really sad after demise of our parents and thought that if only we had a brother, he would have been our support. But God has been so kind, he sent not one but many angels to help us” the bride said. The event was a much discussed affair not only in the village but the surrounding areas and among the police department too.
