Udaipur : Police and officials at the Urban Improvement Trust had a tough time pacifying residents who resorted to a traffic block on Tuesday morning over the poor road and drain conditions at the Savina main road. Residents of the sector 7 and 8 colonies started a protest over the dilapidated condition of roads and drains without any formal announcement. The main road from sector 8 towards Savina was told to be in a bad shape for several weeks. The potholes and craters had made commutation difficult for the public specially those living in the area since large number of vehicles pass daily through the route.

“The condition of roads is pathetic. It makes travelling difficult and often leads to long traffic jams as the vehicles get stuck on the bumpy roads,” said Ramchandra Sharma, a senior citizen. “ We are worried for our children who take the road daily to and fro schools and tuitions, many of them have slipped and got hurt” complained Leela devi, a housewife. The locales also said that lack of proper cleaning has caused choking of the drain further leading to waterlog on road and intensifying the menace. Deputy SP Madhuri Verma, Circle Inspector Chhagan Purohit and few cops arrived to take stock of the situation but the public couldn’t be convinced. Residents blocked the traffic for some time and were adamant on calling the UIT officials for solution of the problem. Finally commutation could only be restored when Ramnivas Mehta, secretary of UIT himself arrived at the spot and signaled the maintenance work.
