Remembering Maharana Pratap, Tagore and Gokhale

The 159th birth anniversary of Rabindra Nath Tagore is being celebrated all over West Bengal on Thursday. Various programmes have been organised to pay respects to Gurudev Tagore.

Prime MInister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Gurudev. PM Modi tweeted that Gurudev Tagore manifests the best of India’s ethos of learning and expressing. A multifaceted personality, his prose, poetry and artwork are brilliant and thought provoking. He enhanced India’s pride and richly contributed to the freedom movement. Maharana Pratap Singh’s birth annivarsary is being celebrated on Thursday. Maharana Pratap was a Rajput king of Mewar in Rajasthan area and was famous for his bravery in the region and his fight at Hildi-ghati. Born in a royal Rajput family of Mewar on May 9, 1540, Pratap was the second son of King Udai Singh-II and queen Jaiwanta Bai, who had seven children. Prime MInister Narendar Modi paid tributes to Maharana Pratap SIngh on his birth annivarsary.

Freedom Fighter and social reformer Gopal Krishna Gokhale’s birth anniversary is also being celebrated today. Paying tributes to Gopal Krishna Gokhale, PM Modi tweeted: Gopal Krishna Gokhale was known for his penchant for learning and social reform and he remained a strong pillar of support for the marginalised sections of society in their quest for empowerment.
