In Dhaka Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder will inaugurate the festival by the lighting of ‘Mongol Prodip’. Later in the afternoon a colourful procession will be brought out from Swamibagh area with images of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balram and sister Subhadra. The chariot will be taken through various areas of the city before concluding at the ancient Dhakeshwari temple.
The Rath Yatra is also being celebrated in Dhamrai which is about 50 kilometres from Dhaka. The Madhav Temple in Dhmarai is 400 years old and it is reputed to be the second largest Jagannath temple in the subcontinent. Thousands of devotees attend the Rath Yatra at Dhamrai every year.
This year the festival will be inaugurated by Education Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Dipu Moni who will be the Chief Gues on the occasion. The festival will end with Ulto Rath Yatra on July 12.
