Rash driving kills lady vegetable vendor in Udaipur

 Udaipur : A poor old woman became victim of a fatal collision on Friday morning when a reckless driver hit and smashed her to death. The victim was a vegetable vendor and arranging vegetables on her handcart when the mishap took place. Police said the car driver was heavily drunk and drove rashly that caused the accident. Another person who was injured is admitted in the civil hospital here, his condition is stable, doctors said.

The incident took place at Devali near Fatehsagar lake. Sundar Bai (52) resident of NeemuchKheda of Devali had just arrived at her fixed place where she sold vegetables on a hand-cart daily. Around 9.30 while she was arranging the veggies stock on the cart, a car came speeding from Fatehpura side and hit her cart. The woman fell down and she got entangled between the car wheels which dragged her to almost 20 feet. She died on the spot. Devilal Gameti, a labourer who was sitting beside the cart too sustained major injuries. The victim’s family members and relatives gathered outside the mortuary and demanded fast action against the offender.

Meanwhile, some of the men chased the speeding car which took the secluded Badi road to escape, however, the driver couldn’t control the car which collided with a ramp outside a building and stopped. People pulled out the driver and thrashed him badly before reporting the matter to police. The driver was later identified as Lokendra Kothari who was heavily drunk.

The accused comes from an influential family and is into travels business, he is a big alcoholic and habitual to rash driving, sources claimed. “ It is a rash driving cum hit and run case. We have detained the driver and taken the car in custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC for reckless driving” Chandra Purohit, SHO Ambamata police station told Udaipur Kiran.
