Ranchi police arrest Seema Patra for tribal girl torture

Ranchi : Senior BJP leader Seema Patra was arrested from her residence at Ashok Nagar, a posh locality in the heart of the city for illegally confining a tribal girl, torturing her and compelling her to work without taking care of her medical requirements.

Patra, the better half of a retired IAS officer, was arrested as she was in the process of leaving her house in the morning.

Officer in charge of Argora police station Vinod Kumar confirmed the action saying arresting could be possible after police got a tip off in the connection.

Patra had left her house after an FIR was registered against her. In the wee hour we got information that she has turned up and is planning to leave again. We immediately swung into action and arrested her, Kumar said.

The action was taken a day after BJP suspended her from the party following registration of an FIR against her under various sections of IPC including 323 ,325, 346 and 374 besides Prevention of ST SC Atrocity Acts.

After arresting the atrocious lady was produced before the residence of magistrate, from where she was forwarded to Birsa Munda Central Jail in 14 day judicial custody.

Asked OC Kumar whether the police pray for her police remand, he said it was not required.

Remand is required only when police want to get some evidence. In this case police have sufficient evidence to act thus remand is not required, he said.

Patra”s son had disclosed the atrocity. Patra managed to declare him mentally unsound and get a space at mental asylum, RINPAS. OC Kumar said after police action her son has also returned from asylum.
