Quantitative Techniques Preparation and Study Plan for CLAT 2023

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is one of the popular national-level entrance exams taken by thousands of students every year. If you want to study law at the top national law universities (NLUs) in India, cracking the CLAT exam is a must. When it is to the CLAT, the quantitative section of the exam is a matter of concern for a majority of aspirants.

Even though it carries just 10% weightage, aspirants keep worrying about the quantitative section. Wondering why? Well, it is because the quant section consists of questions of elementary maths. Many individuals find it quite tricky to solve mathematical questions and find accurate answers.

Are you thinking about how to get through the quantitative section of the CLAT exam? Here is a detailed study plan that can help.

  • Understand the Exam Pattern

When preparing a study plan for the quantitative techniques section of CLAT, you need to start with an understanding of the exam pattern. The exam pattern has changed over the years. So, it is vital to be aware of the new pattern. Previously, this section was known as ‘Elementary Mathematics’. It consisted of questions from percentages, number systems, algebra, time speed distance, geometry, time and work, simplifications, modern maths, and Venn diagrams.

In 2020, the pattern was changed, and ‘Quantitative Techniques’ was the new name of the section. As per the new patterns, aspirants will have to answer questions on tables, graphs, combinations of graphs, and charts. While it may appear to be easier, it can be more time-consuming than the previous pattern. However, ensure that you do not leave the section unattended. Instead, you need to prepare in such a way as to solve the tables and graphs as fast as possible with accuracy.

  • Get an Idea of the Syllabus

After knowing the exam pattern, you need to gain an understanding of the CLAT syllabus. The aspirants must have an idea of the topics covered. Some of the topics you will have to prepare for the quantitative techniques section are basic algebra, average, statistics, pie chart, time and distance, HCF and LCM, volume and surface area, percentage, data interpretation, and ratio and proportion.

  • Prepare a TimeTable

Even though the weightage of the quantitative techniques section is quite less, you must give your best efforts to score high. That is why you need to prepare a timetable. List out the topics to be covered, and the time you need to give to each of them. It goes without saying that you must allot more time for the mathematical topics that you are weak at.

  • Start with the Basic Concepts

When you are preparing for the quantitative techniques section, it is best to start with the fundamental concepts. Lack of clarity of the basics is often the reason why aspirants fail to score well in the quantitative section. Having a good hold of the basic concepts and formulas will help you solve the problems in the exam easily. If you want to refresh your knowledge of the fundamental concepts, using the NCERT books of class 8 can help.

  • Practice

There is no substitute for practising the problems to excel in the quantitative techniques section. The more you practice, the better you will become at solving mathematical problems faster. You must dedicate at least 1 hour daily to practising the problems of different topics in the syllabus. It will not only help in enhancing your speed but also your accuracy level.

  • Solve Question Papers

Taking mock tests and solving question papers of previous years can help you gain an edge over other aspirants of CLAT. The previous year’s question papers will enable you to get an idea of the type of questions that the CLAT exam includes. Taking mock tests can be effective in measuring your preparation level, increasing your speed, and improving your weak areas.

  • Learn the Tricks

When preparing a study plan for the quantitative techniques section of CLAT, you must also focus on learning the tricks and shortcuts. This will help you answer the questions faster. However, make sure you get accurate answers by using shortcuts.

The quantitative techniques section of CLAT is indeed tough. However, it is not impossible to score well in this section. In fact, scoring well in the quantitative techniques section will increase your rank significantly. So, use these strategies and get success in CLAT 2023.
