The Commission has summoned the Prime Minister to appear on Thursday and has been asked to give evidence on a complaint regarding the agriculture ministry’s building.
The agriculture ministry had vacated its building in 2015 after the Prime Minister had put forward a cabinet proposal to use the building for the activities of parliamentary sectoral oversight committees.
The ministry later purchased a new building by paying a monthly rent of over rupees two crore per month.
The development comes amidst continuing power struggle between President Maithripala Sirisena and PM Wickremsinghe with the former accusing the government of corruption. President had replaced PM last October but the latter was restored by a Supreme court judgement.
President had constituted the PCOI to probe into serious acts of fraud, corruption, and abuse of power, state resources, and privileges committed by this government.
Minister of Buddha sasana Gamini Jayawickrama Perera appeared before the PCOI on Monday to record a statement in another case. However, he had requested the Commission give him another date to submit the relevant documents on the matter.
