Addressing a public rally today, Mr. Gotabaya charged that there was no concern for national security since the current government came to power. He also pointed out that they have signed international agreements and taken the war heroes before international courts. Mr. Gotabaya said the government failed to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite receiving intelligence on the time, date and method of attacks. The former defense secretary has made national security as main plank of his campaign. His main rival and minister Sajith Premadasa has announced to appoint former army commander Sarath Fonseka as incharge of security affairs in a move to counter it. Presidential elections are scheduled for 16th of next month and is being contested by a total of 35 candidates.
