On the occasion, the President honoured and felicitated 81 freedom fighters from across the country in the presence of the Vice President Venkaiah Naidu,, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, LokSabha speaker Om Birla,Former Prime minister Manmohan Singh,Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah and other dignitaries.
On August 9, 1942 the Quit India Movement or Bharat Chhodo Andolan was started under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. This movement holds a special relevance in the history of India as it is considered as a significant development that helped India to earn back its freedom from British Raj. The day has been named as August Kranti Divas.
To remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, every year On August 9 the country celebrates August Kranti Divas. On this day, freedom fighters from across the country are invited to Rashtrapati Bhawan to attend the ‘At Home’ function hosted by the President of India.
