Police officer removed, enquiry ordered in funeral procession incident of a religious leader in Bangladesh

Enquiry ordered by police as to how gathering took place despite shut down orders.

The procession took place at Bertola village of Brahmanbaria district about 110 kilomteres from Dhaka to participate in the Jenaza of the head of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Maulana Zubayer Ahmad Ansari who passed away on Friday night.

According to local media reports, a huge procession started from the Madrasa premises down to Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

In view of the large congregation on Saturday, the local authorities have asked people of the area to be under quarantine for the next two weeks in view of the Corona virus threat. Brahmanbaria district has been put under lockdown since April 11 to check the spread of Corona virus.

Amid the general shut down in Bangladesh ordered till 24th April, the government had earlier ordered that no more than five people could congregate in a mosque for offering prayers. Bangladesh Islamic.

Foundation had also ordered people not to congregate in the mosque for prayer in view of the Corona virus spread. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has declared entire Bangladesh at risk of Corona virus.
