Police intervention avert child marriage in Udaipur

child-marriageUdaipur : A 17-year-old girl was saved from the menace of child marriage due to the timely intervention of the police on Wednesday at Nevatalai village under Zawar police station of the district. One Ambalal Salvi and Sugna Devi had fixed the marriage of their daughter Pooja with  one Jaideep. The wedding was scheduled for Thursday and both the parties had distributed invitation cards to guests.child-marriage-2

“ One of our worker from the village came to know that Pooja was a minor. He confirmed her date of birth with the school records and we further informed the authorities” said Bhojraj of Sri Aasra Vikas Sansthan, an NGO .  The matter was reported to Chandrasheel Thakur, additional SP (rural) who instructed the Zawar police to take appropriate action. The cops went to the bride’s home and held an inquiry and found the complaint to be true. Police warned both the parties not to conduct the marriage and referred the case to the Child Welfare Committee. The CWC have been asked to send the girl to a shelter home for two days presuming the possibility of the parents solemnizing the rituals secretly.
