Prime Minister Narendra Modi beginning his day long visit to Varanasi by unveiling a statue of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri located at the airport.
He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bharatiya Janata Party working president JP Nadda and UP state chief of the party, Mahendra Nath Pandey.
Anil Shastri and Sunil Shastri, sons of late Lal Bahadur Shastri, were present at the venue as also Uttar Pradesh minister Siddharth Nath Singh, a kin of the former Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister then proceeded to launch a tree-plantation campaign — “Anand Kanan” — in the temple city.
BJP has decided to initiate this campaign through out the country. It will coincide with the membership drive of the party.
Prime Minister Modi has asked party workers to plant at least 5 trees in every booth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over saplings to youngsters to encourage them to plant trees.
Prime Minister Modi’s last stop was at a virtual museum Man Mahal in Varanasi.
