Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan gathered at what Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as a Kumbh of Farmers in Malout. This was Prime Minister Modi’s first Kisan rally since the recent hike in MSP for Kharif crops. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the Congress party for making false promises.
Prime Minister said that it was his government was working towards doubling farmers income by 2022. He said that be it farmers tilling the land or soldiers protecting the nation, his government is committed to upholding their dignity.
PM Modi also spelt out the benefits of the recent decision on MSP. He said that it will benefit Pattidars as well as land owning farmers.
The Minimum Support Price calculation covers all production costs including the farmer’s labour, his family’s labour and hired labour. It also covers the rent that tenant farmers pay to landowners. Recounting other steps taken to double farmers income, Prime Minister Modi said over 15 crore soil health cards distributed so far. 100% neem coating of urea has resulted in easy availability. PM Kisan Sampada Yojana aims at ensuring properity for farmers. The supply chain is being strengthened and crop insurance is providing Protection to farmers. Rs 50 crore has been allocated to stop burning of stubs and field waste.
Patriarch of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Parkash Singh Badal hailed the govt’s decision on MSP. He said that it has come as a ray of hope for farmers.
Prime Minister Modi said that Punjab is a land known for its hard work – be they farmers, entreprenuers, soldiers or NRI’s, people of Punjab put the nation before themselves. The NDA government unlike the Congress party recognizes and salutes this fact.
