Over dozen students hospitalized after taking MR vaccine in Chittor-Pratapgarh

Udaipur : In two separate incidents in Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh, some 13 students were reported sick and had to be hospitalized on Wednesday after they were administered MR vaccine in their respective schools. At St Pauls school in Chittorgarh,  the medical team had gone to vaccinate the kids in the age bracket of 9-15 years. Some time after the vaccination,  few kids complained headache, nausea and vomiting.

Eight of the students who appeared seriously ill were rushed to the civil hospital and admitted there. As panicked parents arrived at the hospital,  staff had a tough time assuring them that the students were stable and recovering. The Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Inderjeet Singh also visited the hospital to know the health condition of the students. All the students are fine and would be discharged by evening,  the medical officer assured.

At government upper primary school in Talab-ka-kheda village in Pratapgarh district,  some five students fell sick and had to be hospitalized after the MR vaccination. As the kids complained abdomen pain and discomfort, the school staff called the 108 ambulance which took them to the hospital. RCHO Dr Deepak Kumar Meena also went to the hospital.  Senior paediatric doctor Dr Rameshwar Ninama who attended the children said the discomfort had perhaps been due to the hot and humid weather. He also said kids often fear injections and hence before vaccinating them, proper counseling should be held so as to make them comfortable.
