Nepal’s Muktinath: Of faith and popularity

The famous Muktinath temple is situated in the Annapurna mountain range in Mustang district of Nepal. It is one of the most ancient temples of Lord Vishnu. The Hindus calls it Mutki Kshetra, the place of salvation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at Muktinath temple in May this year. After his visit, the number of pilgrims in Muktinath has significantly increased.

Besides Indian pilgrims, people living in Nepal have also been inspired by the Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

The local businessmen are very happy as tourism has increased in the Muktinath after PM Modi’s visit.

The Muktinath temple is considered as one of the 108 Divya Desam or holy places of worship Lord Vishnnu.  It is also one of the 51 Shaktipeeth.

The uniqueness of the temple is that Buddhist nuns look after the temple and they conducts worship.
