Mumbai battles heavy rain

Heavy rains have lashed Mumbai and its neighboring areas as the downpour is entering its fifth day on Tuesday. It’s also been a rain spell like never before, in fact it’s the highest in a decade.

The Met Department warned of “extremely heavy” rainfall in adjoining areas of Thane and Palghar on July 2, 4 and 5. Sub-urban train movement in some areas in Mumbai and around have been suspended for now citing “safety hazard”.

Mumbai witnessed heavy rains even yesterday, with the downpour resulting in water logging in several areas of the city and leading to traffic congestion on roads and delays in train movement.

Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday today as a precautionary measure for Mumbai city and its citizens.
