Kolkata : The Calcutta High Court has ordered an NIA probe into the communal violence during Ram Navami in Howrah, Hooghly and Dalkola in West Bengal.
The order was passed by a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Justice TS Sivagnanam and Hiranmai Bhattacharya on Thursday. NIA will start investigating the case from Thursday itself. The state police will have to hand over all investigation reports and documents to the NIA within two weeks.
Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari had filed a petition regarding this. He had claimed that the Ram Navami processions were attacked in a planned manner. He had said that the fundamentalists were behind this, who had planned the attack on the way of Ram Navami procession.
Apart from this, its video was also presented in the court, in which instead of handling the situation, the police were seen standing silently with the minority community pelting stones at the procession. Regarding this, the court remarked that the investigation by the state police would not be sufficient. Definitely it should be handed over to NIA.
