Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Voting ends for Sixth phase

Long queues of voters witnessed at polling booths, VVIPS including President Ramnath Kovind, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, former President Pranab Mukherjee, other political bigwigs, celebrities queue up early to cast their vote. 

Fifty-nine constituencies, spread over seven states, has gone to the polls in this phase.

Voting took place for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, all 10 in Haryana, eight each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, all seven seats in Delhi and four in Jharkhand.

Election commission had made all arrangements for free and fair elections. A lakh and 13 thousand polling booths had been set up to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.

Prominent candidates include Union Ministers – Radha Mohan Singh, Harsh Vardhan, Maneka Gandhi, Narendra Singh Tomar, Krishan Pal Gurjar and Rao Inderjit Singh, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari and party leaders Gautam Gambhir and Pragya Singh Thakur. Congress leaders Sheila Dikshit, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Digvijaya Singh and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, boxer Vijender Singh, and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav are also among those whose fate will be decided in this phase.

Meanwhile, Reports of poll related violence from West Bengal again, BJP worker killed in Jhargram, BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh attacked.

In an incident, BJP candidate of Jhargram constituency Bharati Ghosh sustained leg injury and her security guard suffered a head injury.

Election authorities asked the district administration to lodge a case against her as she was reportedly doing videography inside a booth.

In a separate incident Trinamool Congress camp office was reportedly ransacked in Belda area under Medinipur constituency.

Incidents of poll related violence have also been reported from Keshpur, Ghatal and other areas of East and West Medinipur districts.
