This decision follows a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy in Chennai today.
The restrictions in place in the containment areas are set to continue.The cabinet has also decided to follow the new norms announced by the Centre for activities in the red, orange and green zones.
There are currently 12 districts in the red zone and 25 in the orange zone. Standalone shops in non-containment zones, except hair salons and beauty parlours, can function from 11 am to 5 pm, while shops selling essential commodities will function between 6 am to 5 pm. Restaurants can function from 6 am to 9 pm but only with takeaway services.
In non-containment zones in Chennai, SEZs will be allowed to function with 25% of workforce while IT and ITES can function with 10 per cent of staff. Shops selling essential commodities will function between 6 AM to 5 PM.
Standalone shops in non-containment zones, except hair salons or beauty parlors can function from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Restaurants can function from 6 AM to 9 PM with only takeaway service. E-commerce for essential services can function in the allotted time.
Plumbers, electricians, AC mechanics, carpenters and home care providers can function with approval from the authorities.
