Leaders cutting across party lines express shock over sudden demise of Sushma Swaraj

Describing former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj as an epitome of grace and grit, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said in her untimely demise, the nation has lost an able administrator, an effective parliamentarian and a true voice of the people.

The Upper House paid glowing tributes to the senior BJP leader. Naidu said that Sushma was a regular at family and cultural events at his residence for a long time and every year Sushma used to tie a Rakhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. He added that he would be missing the honour this year

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that Sushma Swaraj despite being a politician, kept human sensibilities paramount. He added that the shining sun of the India’s political horizon has set in the form of Sushma Swaraj

Home Minister Shah said she left an indelible mark in national politics.

Describing her as a simple and rare politician, he said she was a strong voice of the BJP when it was in the opposition and left an indelible mark as a minister.

I&B Minister also offered condolences to the bereaved family.

BJP leader and former union minister Arun Jaitley said , “Saddened, pained and broken on demise of Sushmaji. She was one of the most outstanding politicians in the Present Era. She distinguished in all positions. She held Senior Positions with the Party, NDA Govt. & while in opposition. She leaves behind a void which is difficult to fill.”

Union minister Smriti Irani said that as a BJP worker, a true tribute to former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj would be by devoting one’s life to the cause of women upliftment.

Leaders from across the political spectrum expressed shock and grief at the untimely demise 

Chairman Prasar Bharati also expressed condolences at the demise of the former EAM.

Geeta, the hearing and speech-impaired woman who returned to India from Pakistan in 2015 following extensive efforts by Sushma Swaraj, on Wednesday said she has lost a “guardian” and “motherly figure” in the death of the former external affairs minister.

A tearful Geeta, through sign language, said Swaraj used to be concerned about her well-being “like a mother”.

Swaraj was always at forefront to help people of Indian origin wherever and whenever required. Many of them are now remembering the immense contribution by Swaraj in ensuring their well being

Her inherent nature was such that everyone felt at ease and could easily relate to her in all circumstances.
