Lake Fest witness less footfall due to cash squeeze, culminates

Udaipur : With a view to promote Udaipur a water sport destination and attract visitors from far and wide, the district administration in association with department of Tourism, Udaipur Municipal Corporation and UIT had organised a three-day Lake festival that culminated ceremoniously on Sunday.

Though the organizers left no stones unturned to make it a signature event of Udaipur, however, it did not receive visitors as much as expected. With a radical drop in the number of domestic as well as foreign tourists in the city and locals forced to spend major part of their time in long queues outside Banks and ATMs, public participation was largely missed specially during the working hours all three days. However, on Sunday, gathering was comparatively better. Special attraction was the cultural program along the lakeside where noted Gazal singer Pankaj Udhaas entertained the audience for hours by singing back to back his famous numbers. Earlier, in the morning, a prize giving ceremony was held at Fateh Sagar lakeside where the winners of various water sports championships held during the fest were awarded.

PHED minister Kiran Maheshwari in her address assured to extend full support in establishing a water sports academy in Udaipur. She also emphasized on similar centers at Rajsamand and Jaisamand Lakes to increase the tourist inflow at these places. On Sunday among other attractions were the Art camp and fair at Rani Road where art lovers amused themselves with the live painting shows from renowned artists from far and wide. Folk performances of local and visiting artists allured citizens at Gangaur Ghat.
