Jharkhand: Campaigning ends for third phase

Campaigning for the third phase of elections ended on Tuesday. Polling will begin at 7 am  in 17 assembly seats spread over 8 districts on 12th December, Thursday. 

Polling will take place from 7 am till 5 pm in 5 assembly seats – ranchi, Hatia, kanke, Ramgarh,and Barkatta. In 12 seats polling will take placefrom 7 am till 3pm. All political parties and leaders have pulled all stops to win the confidence of the voters.

Of the 17 seats that go to polls on Thursday, prominent constituencies include Hazaribagh,Chatra, Ramgarh, Giridih, Bokaro, Sarai Kela Kharsawa and Ranchi.

A total of 309 candidates are in the fray in the 3rd phase. Of these, 277 are males and 32 females.

The 3rd phase will see 56 lakh 18, 267 voters exercise their franchise. Of these, 29 lakh 37,976 are males and 26 lakh 80,205 voters are females. 1 lakh 44,153 voters are first time voters. A quick breakup  of the seats show that the maximum number of candidates 31 are contesting from Ichagarh and the least number of candidates – 12 each are contesting from Ranchi and  Kanke. Prominant leaders comtesting in this phse include Urban Development Minister CP Singh, Education Minister neera yadav ,former CM Babulal MArandi , AJSU chief Sudesh MAhto , and rajendra Singh.

To ensure free, fair and hassle free polling, the Election commission has ensured foolproof measures. Apart from the state police, personnel from paramilitary forces have also been deployed to ensure peaceful polling.

The EC has made optimum use of Information Technology to facilitate the voters, with the Booth App being used for the first time in the country. 

A total of 81 seats in the state go to polls in the elections. While polling in  first phase covered 13 seats on 30 Nov. 20 seats witnessed polling on 7 Dec which saw a record 64.84 % voter turnout. Counting of votes will be held on 23 December.
