JD(S)-Congress government in Karnataka falls

BJP got 105 while JDS-Cong combine got 99 votes. The party termed it a victory of democracy.

The day wasn’t without its fair share of drama. Replying to the discussion on the confidence motion that spanned across 4 days, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said he was ready to “sacrifice” his post happily.

He said he had no intention to drag the trust vote apologising to the Speaker and the people of the state.

My government is not “shameless,” said Kumaraswamy.

An emotional Kumarswamy said when the 2018 assembly polls results were out, he had plans to quit politics.

Before putting the motion to vote, Speaker K Ramesh pulled out his resignation saying he had kept his resignation ready in his pocket and come to the assembly not knowing what will happen.

Suspense over the trust vote continued till around 4.30 pm with both CM Kumarswamy as well as several Congress MLAs not reaching the Vidhan Soudha.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Leader of the opposition B S Yeddyurappa of BJP were locked in a duel of words over the fate of whip issued to the rebel MLAs whose resignation has threatened the continuity of the coalition government.

Yeddyurappa told Siddaramaiah, the Congress Legislature Party leader, that the whip he has issued against the rebel MLAs has no value, citing the Supreme Court’s order that says no MLAs can be forced to attend the Assembly.

BJP also accused Kumarswamy of wasting the tax payer’s money by prolonging the trust vote.

On his part, chairman of the Congress-JDS coalition coordination committee and leader of Congress Legislature Party Siddaramaiah alleged that “Rs 20,25 and 30 crore” were offered to lure the MLAs and asked Where this money came from.

The drama began on 1st of July with two Congress MLAs resigning.

That BJP will stake claim to form the next government is now a certainity.

With the opposition having managed the required numbers to defeat the confidence motion, the BJP has assured the people of the state a better future.
