Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh has assured the nation that the Navy is fully prepared to deal with national security challenges.
Speaking at the annual Navy Day press conference in Delhi, Admiral Singh answered queries on the challenges in the neighbourhood and said that no action of any other player in the region should impact us.
Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh said that Navy is procuring 41 ships and its long-term plan is to have three aircraft carriers to turn into a true blue water force.
The first indigenous aircraft carrier IAC-1 should be fully operational by 2022 and it will operate with the MiG-29K.
He further said that Letter of Acceptance from the US for 24 MH-60R multi-role helicopters is here and the deal is expected to be signed soon.
He added that Indian Navy has thwarted 44 piracy attempts and apprehended 120 pirates during its anti-piracy operations.
Navy day is observed on December 4 every year to mark the achievements and role of the naval force to the country.
On December 4 in 1971, during Operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel. On the day, those killed in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 are also remembered.
