ICC World Cup 2019: Pakistan vs South Africa today

Pakistan will aim for an improved performance as they face a must-win situation against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday. While South Africa will look to produce performances similar to that of their series win against Pakistan earlier this year.

Although, South African bowlers have troubled the opposition in each of the previous three occasions, the batsmen have failed to give them enough runs to play with.

Pakistan, who were outplayed in all departments against India in their previous game, will aim for an improved performance as they face a must-win situation against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.

South Africa’s chances of progressing to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 semi-finals seem all but over after their narrow loss to New Zealand on Wednesday.

While their bowlers have troubled the opposition in each of the previous three occasions, the batsmen have failed to give them enough runs to play with.

The Faf du Plessis-led side will look to produce performances similar to that of their series win against Pakistan earlier this year, when they take the field on Sunday.

Batsmen from both teams have failed to perform consistently which probably is one of the reasons why they are placed near the bottom of the table. The World Cup record between the two sides is just as lop-sided as well.

Pakistan and South Africa have faced off against each other four times in the mega tournament (1992, 1996, 1999, and 2015). Pakistan only managed to win one of these matches, and lost the other three.

With just three points from five matches, Pakistan need results of other World Cup games to go their way in order to have a chance to make it to the last four.

South Africa, face an even worse situation. They have just one win from six World Cup outings and know that only a miracle can save them from yet another World Cup disappointment.
