Hong Kong : New year’s day anti-government protests turned violent

While, Organisers estimated just over one million people took part, the police said around 60,000 protesters attended at the march’s peak.

The violence broke out as masses of citizens pressed authorities for further concessions in the Chinese-ruled city.

However, protests have grown increasingly violent in several districts of Hong Kong, as hundreds of protesters dug in, forming road blocks, setting fires and throwing petrol bombs.
