The Odisha govt has warned of possible low to medium flood in Mahanadi river system with rise in the water flow even as rain subsided in most parts of the state. The death toll in rain-related incidents rose to five with two more deaths. About 7.5 to 8.0 lakh cusec of water may pass at Munduli today evening.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides, blocking roads and disrupting electricity supply even as the region received deficit rains during the current monsoon season. Parts of Sirmaur district were lashed by heavy rains and about 20 roads, including some state highways, were closed due to landslides and hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either side of road blocks.
Widespread rainfall along with heavy to very heavy & extremely heavy falls is very likely to occur over interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter and over West Madhya Pradesh & Vidarbha during subsequent 24 hours.
With the four-month rainy season almost half over, the rainfall deficiency in the eastern part of India, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, has crossed the 40 per cent mark, while a quarter of the country has received “deficient” rainfall.
