In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence day, the govt has come down hard once again against those indulging in corruption and harrassment of taxpayers..
This time around, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs ie. the CBIC has compulsarily retired 22 senior officers upto the rank of Superintendent or Administrative Officers.
The decision is to compulsorily retire officers taken under Fundamental rule 56 (J).
A CBIC statement said this extreme step has been taken “in public interest, due to corruption and other charges and CBI traps”.
In June this year, 27 high ranking IRS officers including 12 CBDT officials had been compulsorily retired on similar grounds and for similar reasons.
