The day marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is a symbol of wisdom and good fortune in Hindu religion.
This year, the festival began on September 2, and the immersion will happen after 10 days, on September 12.

Observed with much fervour and excitement, people install handcrafted idols of Ganesha in their homes.
President, Vice President and Prime Minister greeted the nation on the ocassion. In their messages, President Kovind and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi represent values and goals that we must imbibe to achieve national development and welfare for all sections of society.
PM Narendra Modi in a tweet wished the citizens a blessed Ganesh Chaturthi.
