G Kishan Reddy on Farooq Abdullah: During emergency 36 MPs were arrested

New Delhi : The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy made a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday when former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was detained. He said that from time to time, some steps will have to be taken in the interest of the nation. He said, 36 MPs were arrested during an emergency to save 1 person’s chair, while we are working keeping in mind
law and order.

Kishan Reddy said that only 609 people are currently in jail. We have released the rest. He said that on August 5, a total of 5,161 people were arrested. The demand for Farooq Abdullah ‘s release in the winter session of Parliament has intensified.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rajya Sabha member Mir Mohammad Fayaz wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday demanding the release of all the state leaders including the three former chief ministers – Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Since the removal of Article 370, which gave special status to the state, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has kept many leaders under house arrest or detention.
