Udaipur : The forest department successfully rescued a male leopard near a stream in Badgula village of Kalinjar Panchayat at Kumbalgarh in Rajsamand district on Wednesday noon. The wild cat was spotted by a local Pannaram on whom the beast suddenly pounced on, the previous day. The villagers reported the matter to the forest authorities. A team from Udaipur and Rajsamand set out to locate the leopard and found it in an ailing condition in Badgula in the morning.
The leopard had grown old and too weak to find himself a prey and therefore was starving for many days, sources said. “Shooter Satnam Singh and a joint team from Udaipur and Rajsamand tranquilized the animal in an hour and caught him in a net. The leopard has developed some infection in its eyes and throat and there were worms seen on its body. This has made him restless too” said ranger Vinod Kumar Rai. The leopard gained consciousness while being carried towards the vehicle. This panicked the forest officials too who hastily pushed him into the cage. A large crowd had gathered to watch the beast. The animal would be treated in Rajsamand and would be released after recovery, officers said.
