Festivities of Diwali across the nation; Dhanteras being celebrated

The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Deepawali. People conduct Dhanvantri Puja on the occasion of Dhanteras. According to the Hindu mythology, ‘Dhanvantari’ who is worshipped on this day is considered as the God of Ayurveda, who imparted the wisdom of Ayurveda for the betterment of mankind.

People consider it is good to buy things such as gold or silver coins, Jewellery articles, new utensils or other new things on this day. People consider that bringing new things at home is the sign of Lakshmi coming home whole year. Lakshmi Puja is carried out in the evenings and people lit various diyas in order to drive out the evil spirits shadow.

On Dhanteras, special offers and discounts are also given by shops to customers. 

This time also huge rush can be seen in utensil shops. The shops are all decked up with various kind of fancy and decorative utensils from pressure cooker to dinner sets. This time there’s a high demand for Puja Thali among the customers.

Many varieties can also be seen in items such as earthen lamps, idols and other decorative items. Amid the festive season, high security is in place specially at public places and markets to prevent any untoward incident.
