The festival of “Hartalika Teej” is being celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in Nepal. Women visiting various temples and offering prayers to Lord Shiva. In capital Kathmandu, all four doors of famous Pashupatinath temple are open since 3 in the morning.
Women are waiting in long queues for their turn. According to Pashupati Area Development Trust around 6 lakh devotees are expected to visit the temple on the occasion of Teej. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around the temple premises to prevent any untoward incident. President Vidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli have greeted Nepali women on the occasion of “Hartalika Teej.
The festival is celebrated on Tritiya of Bhadra Shukla Paksha (3rd day of the bright half of Nepali Lunar month of Bhadra). The married women keep fast and worship Lord Shiva on “Hartalika Teej for the long and healthy life of their husband. Unmarried girls also observe fast on this day for a good husband. Traditional dances and songs are important part of Teej celebrations.
