Fair force to nab eve-teasers in Udaipur

Udaipur : In a first-of-its-kind initiative, women police constables will fight eve-teasers in the city. The police department has constituted special teams comprising lady constables to crack down on eve-teasers in view of the rising crimes against women and girls. The fair force which is already on the job at several locations across Udaipur, are working in coordination with Hawks and officers-in-charge of various police stations. Six teams comprising of selected lady constables have been stationed at tourist hotspots like Fateh Sagar, Dudh Talai, Pichhola lake, Rani Road, Sukhadia Circle, Gulab Bagh, Saheliyon ki Badi, Rajeev Gandhi park and girls schools-colleges to check eve-teasing.

“The purpose of this mission is better policing with the help of women constables. We chose enthusiastic lady constables after a formal interview with them to know about their willingness to participate in the task” said Dr. Rajesh Bharadwaj, the additional SP. The female constables have been instructed to move around in trendy clothes and behave like the modern girls which would attract the ‘road Romeos’. Upon any act of eve-teasing, the lady constable would signal her team members who would immediately nab the culprit. Each team will also have three male constables for protection who will be in plain clothes. On the first day of the trial , four eve-teasers were arrested.

“ The teams will be in constant touch with the police control room in case they required help or additional force. I am sure with this move will go a long way to reduce eve teasing scenario in the city,” Dr. Bharadwaj said. The constables, both in uniform and plainclothes, will be authorized to make arrests. The teams will be positioned strategically outside schools and colleges in the morning when students arrive, and in the afternoon when students leave for home. In the evenings, the teams will be positioned in busy bazaars, tourist spots and malls.
