Dengue hits record high of 18 years in Bangladesh

Number of dengue patients in Bangladesh has reached its highest level since it was first detected in 2000. According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) 10528 patients have been infected with dengue till Saturday. Close to 700 more people were reported with dengue infection across the country on Saturday.

8 people have died in the current spate of dengue outbreak but the numbers are likely to be much higher going by the reports coming from various parts of the country and delay in collecting information by the official agencies. The hospitals in Dhaka are crowded with dengue patients.

Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) data shows that out of 800 beds in the medicine department, 561 were occupied by dengue patients on Saturday morning.
